The question is what is art.
Starting with 400 works by the artist Joan Miro (paintings, sketches, sculptures, and tapestries), I leveraged technology, namely GAN algorithms, to generate paintings that might be attributed to the deceased artist, wondering if the computer could learn to draw as a certain person.
A number of potential works arose, challenging the viewer to reconsider the role of artists in contemporary society. Highlighting the contradictions of the creative process, the viewer is drawn into a fruitful debate about the identity of the creator: was it the man behind the machine, who gave the commands that could as well have been written by a random person, or the machine that executed them and accomplished what seemed impossible to man? This discipline of study, in my opinion, is more than just mathematical computations.
